AG directors clear up title for school’s sale

By Steve Ostrosky 2 min read

GERMAN TWP. – The Albert Gallatin School Board took action Wednesday to clear up a title defect uncovered after directors voted to sell the former Masontown Elementary School building last year. In June 2004, the board approved the sale of the building to Pechin Used Cars Inc. of Dunbar for $10,651.

According to solicitor Lee Price, the owners of the facility never conducted a title search before the building was sold to Threshold Housing Development Inc., which has plans to convert the school into a living complex for senior citizens.

A deed, from the State Public School Authority to the district, was missing from the chain of titles, but was located following the sale, Price said. He said the quit-claim deed approved by the board Wednesday closes the gap in titles that had been discovered.

“This is not a new deed, and there is no new money coming into the district from it,” Price said.

Directors voted unanimously to approve the quit-claim deed, with William Boni, Joseph Panek Jr. and Janet Swaney absent Wednesday.

During the brief meeting, the board also acted on several personnel issues.

Directors hired Kirk Wright as assistant girls’ soccer coach at the high school, Ken Frantz as assistant boys’ soccer coach at the high school, Crystal Honsaker as assistant girls’ volleyball coach at the high school, and Eric Moore, Jeff Rush and Adam Smith as assistant high school football coaches.

The board hired John Kochis as assistant football coach at Albert Gallatin North Middle School, Mark Dunham as assistant football coach at Albert Gallatin South Middle School, and Erika Collins as cheerleading sponsor at A.G. North.

Directors approved the district’s Special Education Plan for 2005-08 and authorized its submission to the state Department of Education.

Directors also voted to pay Step by Step Learning $84,925 in Title I funds to provide professional development to staff members for 2005-06 in all Title I buildings, and voted to pay Rockliffe System Inc. $4,250 for e-mail services for one year.

The board also voted to apply for two half-Act 80 days for Oct. 5 and March 1 and to revise the 2005-06 school calendar accordingly.

Directors explained that the Act 80 days will not impact the start or finish of the school year.
