Madeline (Tissue) VanNosdeln
Madeline (Tissue) VanNosdeln, 91, of Mill Run, Pa., died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, in Eicher’s Family Home, Normalville. She was born June 10, 1914, in Stewart Township, a daughter of the late Levi and Jennie Grace Long Tissue.
Madeline was a graduate of Connellsville High School, Class of 1931, and a graduate of the California Normal School, now California University, in 1946. She was a retired school teacher having taught in the former Stewart Township and Ohiopyle schools, and later in the Uniontown Area School District, retiring after 43 years.
She was a member of the Fayette County, State and National Teachers Associations, and a member of the Chat and Chew Club. She was also a member of the Mountain Citizens Action Group of Farmington, where she was a past vice-president, secretary and historian.
She was a member of St. Raymond of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church, Donegal.
Left to cherish her memory are a sister, Wilma Peters of Aurora, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted friends, Pat Long and Tom Jewart.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George VanNosdeln on Nov. 16, 1984; her sisters Nina Skinner, Gladys Johnson and Hilda Bryner; a brother, Leland Tissue; her half brothers, Filbert, Ralph, William and Clyde Tissue; and her half sisters, Bess Skinner, Ethel Joy and Goldie Hay.
