11 injured in van wreck
WHARTON TWP. – State police said 11 Girl Scouts were injured when a van in which they were riding traveled into a ditch along Route 40 east just past the entrance to the polo field at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa at 3 p.m. Monday. The van driver, Lacey Boufalla, 24, of Pocomoke, Md., was among the injured. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.
Police said someone driving a vehicle was stopped in the westbound lane waiting for eastbound traffic to clear to turn into Country Kids Learning Center, but Boufalla apparently didn’t see it until she was close and swerved off the road to avoid hitting the vehicle.
The van was one of three traveling together carrying a contingent of Girl Scouts, many of whom were from out of state. It was not known where they were going or where the trip originated.
Volunteer firefighters from Farmington and Markleysburg, along with emergency personnel from American Ambulance, Fayette EMS, Uniontown Fire Department and Markleysburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
