James Robert Balla
James Robert Balla, 65, of Daisytown, Pa., died peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Thursday, July 28, 2005. He was born on July 28, 1940, in Daisytown, the son of Alex and Mary Gyure Balla Sr., who both preceded him in death.
Mr. Balla served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, and was stationed in Germany. He retired from Jones & Laughlin/LTV Steel after 33 years of employment.
He was a member of the Daisytown United Presbyterian Church, the Daisytown Hungarian Club, the Daisytown Athletic Club, and the John F. Kennedy American Legion Post No. 377 of California.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Marie Zahara Balla; his daughter, Melissa Susan O’Brien and her husband, Dennis; two grandchildren, Dennis James and Gianna Sophia O’Brien, all of Daisytown; two brothers, Alex Balla Sr. and his wife, Jean of Monroeville, and Donald Balla and his wife, Betty of Valencia; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Friends will be received from noon to 9 p.m., on Saturday in the JOHN B. GREENLEE FUNERAL HOME, Route 40, Beallsville, where funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 31, 2005, at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery, West Pike Run Township. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., on Saturday, followed by full graveside military rites on Sunday, and will be accorded by the John F. Kennedy American Legion Post No. 377 of California.
