Harry D. Hutchinson, November 28, 1924 to July 28, 2005, beloved husband of Betty Lee (Truman) of Newark, Del., died peacefully at home on Thursday. Harry and Betty Lee both grew up in Uniontown, Pa. He served in Germany and France in the Army during World War II.

He earned a PhD in Economics at the University of Michigan, and taught Economics at the University of Delaware, from 1959 until 1989. Harry considered himself a very lucky man whose life was constantly enriched by his many students, his colleagues, his friends, and his family.

He will also be remembered as a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines, a passionate Democrat, a wonderful gardener, and a good friend. We hope you’ll think of Harry when you take a hike in the mountains, enjoy a beautiful garden, attend a football game, play tennis, walk your dogs, or take a morning walk on the beach.

In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by his three children: Dave (Kris Taveggia) of Ann Arbor, Mich. , Anne Clites (Greg) of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Doug (Janet) of Salt Lake City, Utah. Harry was a wonderful grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Erica, Jay, Elise, Marisa, Cara, Eric, and Steve. Harry is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at the University of Delaware on Saturday, July 30th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made for scholarship support in the Department of Economics, Lerner College of Business and Economics, University of Delaware, 122 Hullihen Hall, Newark, DE 19716.
