Joseph R. Embacher Jr.

Joseph R. Embacher Jr., 82, of Smithfield, Pa., died Friday, July 29, 2005, at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was born Feb. 23, 1923, in Bruck-Saltzburg, Austria, son of the late Joseph and Hermine Rumer Embacher.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Jane O’Neil Embacher, and his daughter, Rose Marie Embacher.

Early in his young life, he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp, before entering service in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II, in Company I, 168th Infantry and was injured in action in Italy and was awarded the Purple Heart and also received the Silver Star, Bronze Star and North Africa, Middle Eastern and European Theater Medals.

He was a former coal miner and a bricklayer who retired from the West Virginia University Physical Plant in Morgantown, W.Va.

Joseph was a member of the Ss. Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church in Fairchance, and formerly served as an usher, a member of Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584, American Legion Post 423 of Masontown, Pa., and Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local 9 PA, former Past President of the Smithfield Lions Club and Past President of the Collier VFD.

He was very proud of his loving family: his son, Joseph H. Embacher and wife, Joyce of York Run, Pa.; three grandchildren, Joseph W. Embacher and wife, Becky, Theda Embacher and Tonya Embacher-Hixson; five great-grandchildren, Travis, Liberty, Joseph, Logan and Davannah; a brother, August Embacher and wife, Bernice of Ohio; sisters, Rose Marie Nestor and husband, Steve of North Huntingdon, Pa., and Hilda Karinshak of Morgantown, W.Va.; and many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., this evening from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, until 9:30 a.m., when a prayer service will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m., in Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church of Fairchance, with the Rev. Fr. Andrew M. Kawecki as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa., with Military Rites being accorded by Faith-Gray-McArdle VFW Post 4584. A Parish Wake Service will be held Monday evening at 8:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Noah’s Ark of Fayette County Humane Society, 477 North Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, PA 15401, or your favorite local Humane Society.
