CONFLUENCE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, Yough and Sterner streets, about 25 miles south of Somerset on Route 281 and 30 miles east of Uniontown, announces The Dominion Trio will present a blue grass gospel concert on Sunday at 10 a.m. Marvin Parsons founded the group in 1969 as an all-male quartet known as The Dominion State Quartet. Over the years, the group has changed to a trio. Nora Parsons, Parson’s wife, has been in the group since 1978. She was raised a preacher’s daughter from the foothills of North Carolina. Tim Meeker, the other member, comes from Sharples, W.Va. He was a preacher’s kid and has been in church all his life. He traveled with other groups prior to joining the group in June 1988. The couple met in Egypt after Matar graduated from Cairo Evangelical Theological Seminary and Mrs. Matar from Alexandria University. They were married in Khartoum in 1996 and have two children. Matar became general secretary of SPEC last year and teaches at the Gerief Bible School and pastors a congregation in North Khartoum. Mrs. Matar, who received a master’s degree in missionology in 2000, teaches at Nile Theological College in Khartoum.

ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF GREENSBURG announces the Diocesan Festival Choir will present a concert on Saturday, June 11, as part of a papal honors weekend for the Diocese of Greensburg. The free concert, titled “Visions: Old and New,’ will begin at 8 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg. The festival choir, which partners members of the diocesan choir with members of the cathedral choir, will be accompanied by a full orchestra composed of local musicians. The concert will serve as the prelude to a June 12 ceremony during which Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt will confer papal honors on 14 priests of the diocese and present diplomas to 10 lay people who will be honored for their distinguished service to the church. “Visions: Old and New’ will serve as a tribute to recently elected Pope Benedict XVI, diocesan officials said. The concert will feature works by three American composers: “Festival Sanctus’ by John Leavitt, “The Dream Isaiah Saw’ by Glenn Rudolph and “A New Creation’ by Rene Clausen. Although all are welcome to attend the concert, the June 12 ceremony is by ticket only due to the cathedral’s limited seating capacity.
