Dilliner resident observes 90th birthday
Mary Vukovich Shuppe of Dilliner celebrated her 90th birthday on May 12. She was born May 12, 1915, in Yukon in Westmoreland County.
She has four children, including Michael and his wife, Dorothy; Frederick “Ted” and his wife, Lori; Steven and his wife, Susan; and Melinda Williams and her husband, Jim.
She has seven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren.
She married George Shuppe, Jr. on Sept 10, 1938, and moved to Dilliner, Pa., where she still resides.
They enjoyed many years of dancing to polkas and traveling prior to her husband’s death.
Mary enjoys the outdoors, especially her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoys crocheting and quilting, as well as cooking and baking.
In the past, she has been known to try roller-skating, riding a snowmobile, riding a four-wheeler and traveling by motorcycle and skateboard, as well as trying her hand at golf, baseball and basketball with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Her latest escapades have included riding an ultra-light airplane and taking a helicopter flight. Mary is happiest when enjoying the company of family and friends.
An open house will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Mary’s home, to celebrate her 90 years.
Family members and friends are invited to share the day. Those attending are asked not to bring birthday gifts — because a smile and a memory will please her most.
