Checkpoints planned
State police said they are conducting sobriety checkpoints before, during and after the July 4 holiday on various roads in the county. Police advise motorists to wear seatbelts, drive safely, not drive after drinking and have a designated driver.

Flags desecrated
American Legion Post 51 in Uniontown is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who have destroyed 17 American and POW/MIA flags and poles in downtown Uniontown over the last two weeks. The Legion and other veterans’ and service organizations maintain 850 American flags and 50 POW/MIA flags downtown.

Man hospitalized
Joseph L. Usher, 19, of Wind Ridge was in fair condition Monday in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., with injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle accident on Route 18 Saturday at 10:55 a.m. State police at Waynesburg said he fell asleep while driving and hit a tree.

Someone entered Bethesda Christian Store and stole $25 from the cash register Friday between 12:22 and 7 a.m., state police said.

Two cited
Timothy Lee Ruff of Acme and a juvenile from White were cited with criminal mischief for allegedly throwing lit firecrackers on the hood of a Saltlick Township Fire Department truck hood behind the fire department Saturday at 11 p.m., state police said.

Charges were filed against Charlene Elish of Grindstone for allegedly backing her vehicle into a parked vehicle owned by Audrey Elish of Brownsville in a parking lot along Confer Vista Drive Friday at 11:16 p.m., state police said.

Someone stole a safe containing money and documents from Franklin Swaney’s Lemont Furnace home between 6:15 and 8:15 p.m. June 15, state police said.

Minor injuries
State police said Barbara A. Hance, 66, of Manlius, N.Y., and Mary Louise Sullivan, 77, of Pittsburgh were involved in an accident on Route 711 at County Line Road Sunday at 7:23 p.m. Sullivan had a passenger.
All three people suffered minor injuries.

Vehicle crashes
State police said James Milan Faris, 61, lost control of a vehicle on Prittstown Road, near Gimlet Hill Road, Sunday at 2:39 p.m., hit a guide rail and the vehicle rolled into a ravine.
He was not hurt, but his three passengers had minor injuries.

Someone slashed two tires and scratched the paint on a vehicle owned by Pamela L. Santello of Grindstone in a driveway along West Third Street in Grindstone between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, state police said.

Hit-and-run reported
The unknown driver a Volvo tractor-trailer hit a vehicle driven by Robert Warholak, 68, on Route 21 Sunday at 5:05 p.m. and continued traveling west, state police said. Warholak was not hurt.

Kent Brian Shoemaker, 36, of South Connellsville was cited for allegedly grabbing Barbara Ann Shoemaker, 44, of Dunbar and damaging her yard with his vehicle Saturday at 3:25 p.m., state police said.

Riley Thomas Jr. of Morgantown, W.Va., Jamie Sharratt of Mount Morris and Suzanne Wise-Sampson of Mount Morris were cited with harassment for fighting on Bunner Hill Road Saturday at 7:55 p.m., state police said.

Home burglarized
State police at Waynesburg said someone kicked in a door at Linda Minnear’s Pine Street home and stole about $200 in coins June 13 at 4 p.m.
A door at Marea Bell’s Washington Street residence was also kicked in on the same day, but nothing was reported stolen, state police said.
