Jack Robert Foster
Jack Robert Foster, 80 years, of Smithfield, Pa., died Sunday, March 13, 2005, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was born July 24, 1924, in Oliphant Furnace, Fayette County, Pa., son of Robert H. Foster and Margaret Watson Foster.
Jack was a veteran of World War II who served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Ericsson in both the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and the European Theatre.
He was employed for many years by and retired from United States Steel’s Maple Creek Mine.
Jack was a member of V. F. W. Post 747 in Point Marion, Pa.
He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters, Mary Emma Morrow, Kathryn Waddell and Henrietta Sullivan, and his former wife, Marion Gail “Dot” Cooley Foster.
Surviving are his eight children: Jacquelyn Churby and husband Harry, Smithfield, Pa., Margie Williams and husband Van, Grass Valley, California, Kathy Spak, Fairchance, Pa., Twila DiMatteo, Smithfield, Pa., Patti Mickey and husband Jim, Smithfield, Pa., James R. Foster and wife Vicky, Fairchance, Pa., Gail Clevenger and husband Charles, Fairchance, Pa., and Jay Foster and wife Erica, Lake Lynn, Pa.; 17 grandchildren: Denise Robinson, Heather Kimmell, Kristin Sauceda, Rhonda Colbert, Lorrie Barber, Jack Daugherty, Patty Michotte, Steve Spak, J. D. DiMatteo, Jimmy Mickey, J. R. Foster, Brittany Foster, Chuckie Clevenger Jr., Cory Clevenger, Logan Foster, Jackie Lynn Bosley and Joseph Nara; 16 great grandchildren; and by close friend, Evelyn Clemmer and family.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 16, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating.
Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa., where Military Rites and Honors will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 747.
