Ruling expected

The Fayette County Zoning Hearing Board will issue a ruling within 45 days on William D. Pritts’ request for a special exception to continue running his Church of Universal Love and Music in Acme, Bullskin Township.

Testimony concluded in the case, which has been continued four times since October 2004.

Pritts petitioned for a special exception for a semi-public, religious-in-nature use for his 147-acre church property located along Bear Rocks Road. The property is zoned A-1 for agricultural use.

County zoning officers have cited him at least twice for holding outdoor concerts at the site since 2002 without the zoning exception. Appeals of those citations have been continued to June 22.

Testimony Thursday lasted for about four hours.

Board members resumed the questioning of Pritts that they started on Feb. 16 when they last convened on the matter, and several people testified both for and against Pritts’ petition.

Special service planned

The Senior Choir of St. Rita Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville will present a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m., on Sunday in the church.

The services date as far back as the 5th century when the ceremony was performed during the matins and lauds, which were on the last three days of Holy Week.

Derived from the Latin word meaning “shadows,” Tenebrae depicts, through the extinguishing of candles, the flight of the disciples and prophets.

The Rev. Frank Lesniowski is pastor of the church, Rosella Talucci is organist, and Henry F. Molinaro is choir director. For more information, call 724-628-2421.
