Dunbar council appoints street foreman

By Jackie Beranek 2 min read

DUNBAR – Borough council appointed Dale Golden street foreman Monday. William Watson, borough street committee chairman, said Golden has worked for the borough in a maintenance capacity for about 14 years.

In a related matter, Kathlene Dynes, council president, appointed Councilman Harold Hair to the street department committee. Hair was appointed to council last month. He replaces former Councilman Frank Zadell, who resigned in January because of health problems.

In other hiring news, council appointed Holly Green of Connellsville as borough secretary. Green replaces Debby Visnosky who took the job as borough treasurer when former treasurer Diana Homer resigned.

Last month, council agreed to hire Robin Leonard of Dunbar Township as secretary, but according to Councilman Patrick FitzGerald, Leonard was injured in a vehicle accident the night before she was hired and is undergoing treatment for her injuries.

Council additionally agreed Monday to send a copy of a resolution they passed opposing the elimination of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in the federal 2006 budget to President George W. Bush and area congressmen.

Dynes said the CDBG program, which funds a myriad of social service, economic development, and housing programs, has been in existence for about 30 years and has helped develop a strong network of relationships between the borough, residents and many non-profit agencies that provide services and help make possible financial commitment to neighborhoods across the nation.

The federal CDBG program is administered through individual states and counties.

Solicitor Doug Sepic said boroughs across the United States are signing the resolution and forwarding it to Bush and members of Congress so that they can recognize the outstanding work being done locally and nationally by the DCBG program and it can be discussed in the next session of Congress.
