John Paul Bederka, 92, of Edenborn, Pa., died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at 6:28 p.m., in Somerset, Pa. He was born June 15, 1912, in Brownfield, Pa., the son of the late Matthew and Anna (Lucas) Bederka.

John was a coal miner at U.S. Steel Robena Mine.

John was a well-known baseball player in youth teams as well as in U.S. Steel Mine League Teams, UMWA Local 6321, (Puritan Team).

He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Leckrone, Pa.

Surviving are a son, John Bederka; a daughter, Louise B. Hammer; and six grandchildren.

Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, Corner of Church on 7 River Ave., Masontown, Pa., on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 from 3 to 6 p.m., and on Thursday, March 31, 2005, until 11:30 a.m., the hour of a prayer service, followed by a Mass at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Leckrone, Pa., with the Rev. Fr. Donald P. Trexler as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa. The Family requests that no flowers be sent.
