Gertrude E. Daughtery
Gertrude Elizabeth Daughtery, 83, of South Connellsville, Pa., died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, in South Connellsville Personal Care Home. She was born Nov. 23, 1921, in Morrell, Pa., a daughter of the late John and Ruth (Smith) Walker.
She was a 1940 graduate of Dunbar Township High School, a loving homemaker and a caregiver to many of her neighbors and friends. She was always there when needed.
Gertrude was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, its Christian Mothers, and was a volunteer Mercy Meal worker for many years. She was also a member of The St. Vincent DePaul Society, The South Connellsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Morrell Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where she was a founding charter member. She also served as a volunteer for the school lunch program for over 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Daugherty in 1984; and her sister, Anna C. Rudman Walker R.N.
She is survived by her son, James F. Daughtery and her daughter, Ruth Ann Daugherty, both of South Connellsville; her sister, Ella May Walker, Ret. Commander R.N., Williamsburg, Va.; her brother, James Walker and wife, Janet of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the PAUL G. FINK FUNERAL HOME INC., 418 North Pittsburgh St., Connellsville, where a blessing service will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., in Immaculate Conception R.C. Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. Fr. Terry Hercik as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph R.C. Cemetery, Connellsville. A Parish Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
