George F. O’Brien, 83, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away unexpectedly in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born February 12, 1922 in Uniontown, Pa., the son of the late Angelo and Mary Ellen Catney O’Brien.

George was an active member of the Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion Post 51. George was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy. He was a shoe salesman throughout the area for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Bernard A. O’Brien, six brothers, Leo O’Brien, Tom O’Brien, John O’Brien, James O’Brien, Rev. Bernard O’Brien, and Rev. William O’Brien and two sisters, Nellie O’Brien Liston and Margaret O’Brien Davis. He was the last remaining member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Virginia Schepisi O’Brien; a son, George F. O’Brien, Jr. of Manhattan, N.Y.; and a daughter, Joan Schafer and husband, Gregory of Uniontown, Pa.; his two grandchildren whom he deeply cherished, Jennifer Talbott and husband, Brock of Weirton, W.Va., and Gregory Schafer, Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received in the DOLFI FUNERAL HOME, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 until 9:30 a.m. at which time a Blessing Service will be held, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic church with the Rev. Father Michael Crookston officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
