Fire destroys Greene County mobile home
BRAVE – A mother and her 4-month-old twins escaped a fire that erupted in their Greene County mobile home Friday afternoon. The fire left the family of four homeless, however. The trailer was a “total loss,” said Wayne Twp. Fire Chief Jeff Hillberry.
Hillberry said Dorthea Carter, the mother of the twins, was lying down when she heard an explosion that “blew the windows out.”
The fire, which broke out at approximately 12:50 p.m., was under control within 15 minutes, Hillberry said.
The mother, the twins and a 3-year-old boy, who Carter was babysitting, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but were otherwise unharmed. Robert Yeager, the twins’ father, was working during the time of the fire, Hillberry said.
The American Red Cross provided the family with food, baby formula, diapers and clothing, Gregg Ramshaw, a spokesperson for the Southwestern Chapter of the American Red Cross, said. The family did not accept lodging accommodations, however, opting to stay with relatives, Ramshaw explained.
Debbie Phillips, an American Red Cross disaster team leader, said fire marshal Stephen Thompson ruled the fire an accident.
Wayne Twp. Volunteer Fire Company and Mon County Company 11 responded to the call.
