Ira W. Murphy

Ira W. Murphy, 75, of Dawson, Pa., died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at his home. He was born in Dunbar, Pa., on March 20, 1930, the son of the late Raymond and Hazel Stull Murphy.

He was retired from the coal and coke works and the U.S. Steel Corporation. He later became a self-made businessman in the auto wrecking business for 45 years, which still thrives today and is being operated by his sons.

He especially enjoyed farming.

Surviving are his loving wife, Ruth Liston Murphy; 13 children, Sandra Murphy Hallam and husband, Bob of Washington, Pa., Connie Lama and husband, Danny of Jefferson, Pa., Ira W. Murphy Jr., of Dawson, Pa., Ida Ruvo of Mount Pleasant, Pa., Cindy Goodwin and husband, Don of Everson, Pa., Roxie Goodwin and husband, Dave of Connellsville, Pa., Perry Murphy and wife, Kimberly J. of Dunbar, Pa., Elvis Murphy and wife, Andria of Dawson, Pa., Clifford Murphy and wife, Kimberly A., of Dawson, Pa., Scarlette Murphy of Dawson, Pa., Robert Murphy and wife, Cynthia of Dawson, Pa., Ivan W. Murphy of Brownsville, Pa., and Jeffrey Murphy and fianc?, Jennifer Rabatin of Dawson, Pa.; one sister, Connie E.; and one brother, Orey Murphy of Vanderbilt, Pa., both Orey and Ira served during the Korean Conflict, having basic training at Indian Town Gap Military Reservation; 22 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace.

Friends will be received in the RALPH E. GALLEY FUNRAL HOME, Dawson, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Lee Maley officiating. Interment will be in Cochran Cemetery.
