Transfer of charges hearing continued

By The 1 min read

A hearing to transfer criminal homicide charges lodged against a 16-year-old Uniontown man to juvenile court was continued Wednesday. Christopher Duncan, of 101 Penn St. was scheduled to appear in Fayette County Court for the hearing.

But it was delayed until January under an order late Tuesday from Judge Steve P. Leskinen.

Duncan allegedly shot Michael “Scooter” Jointer, 19, of Redstone Township in the head at the corner of Coolspring and Dunlap streets in Uniontown on Jan. 31.

In addition to criminal homicide, Duncan is also charged with carrying a firearm without a license.

Duncan was charged as an adult because of the severity of the crime, but has the option to petition the court to transfer the case so he can be adjudicated as a juvenile.

If that does happen, Duncan can be held no longer than his 21st birthday.

Witnesses who were at the scene of the shooting had testified at a March preliminary hearing that the men were arguing just before the shooting occurred.
