Woman charged with stealing police car

By Amanda Clegg 1 min read

Borough police charged 23-year-old Jasonya Leniar Lewis of 542 Fifth Street, Brownsville, with robbery of a motor vehicle after, police said, she stole a California Borough Police cruiser idling in Jefferson Apartments parking lot at 11:13 p.m. Tuesday. Officer Robert Dorcan responded to a 911 call from Lewis who allegedly said someone was trying to kill her. When Dorcan arrived on the scene, Lewis was hanging from a second story window in the apartment complex screaming, “They’re killing me. They’re killing me,” according to the police report.

When Dorcan went to her aid, Lewis jumped from the window, landed on her back and jumped in the running vehicle.

Police said the woman hit several parked vehicles in the parking lot before colliding with a fence off Route 88.

Upon arrest, Lewis allegedly kicked and scratched Dorcan. Lewis was also charged with theft by unlawful taking-moving property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, filing false reports, resisting arrest and three counts of damage to unattended vehicles.

Lewis was medically cleared at Brownsville General Hospital for incarceration at Washington County Prison under $20,000 bail.
