Today through next week: ALLISON CHRISTIAN CHURCH announces the Hanging of the Greens will be held Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m. as the church is decorated for Advent and Christmas. ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces in celebration of the First Sunday of Advent, the first Advent Candle will be lit. A special offering will be collected at both services for United Methodist Student Day. Sunday’s more casual 9 a.m. worship service will include the Rev. Thomas Brown’s sermon “Advent According to Isaiah,’ praise choruses and hymns, accompanied by Sharon Brown. The more traditional 11 a.m. service will include Brown’s message, and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir, directed and accompanied by Jim Hutchinson. Sheree Wetzel will be the worship leader. Children’s church is available for those in kindergarten through second grade. Loving Nursery Care is available for infants and children under 4. Tele-receivers are available for the hearing impaired. The children’s choir will rehearse for 15 minutes during the 11 a.m. service and for a half hour immediately following the service. BEREAN SEVENTH-DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, Searight and Butler streets, Uniontown, reports that on Sunday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., the members served Thanksgiving dinner to more than 120 people from the Uniontown area. They distributed 55 food baskets and hundreds of pieces of clothing and shoes for men, women and children. This is the 15th year the church has performed this ministry, which it calls Operation Jesus Feed. Officials said, “We would like to extend a heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to all of our members, the many volunteers, the local Uniontown businesses and all the other donors who made the occasion an overwhelming success with their help and support (in the form of donations and time).
