Mary Edith Cottom Linderman
Mary Edith Cottom Linderman, age 74, of Vanderbilt, Pa., passed away peacefully into the arms of God on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, after a long struggle with emphysema. She passed from this life with those who cared most for her at her side, or in their thoughts, during her struggle. Mary was born at home on the family farm in the Vanderbilt area on June 23, 1931, the daughter of William Cottom and Luzetta McNight Cottom, all lifelong residents of the Vanderbilt area.
She was a member of Brian United Methodist Church in Dawson, Pa.
Mary was married to Harold Linderman and the couple was childless. They made their home, and were well known, in the Flatwoods (Pa.) area.
Mary had been employed at the former Anchor Hocking Glass Plant No. 5 in South Connellsville, Pa., as a Selector-Packer for many years as well as at several other places of employment.
But she and her husband, Harold, are best remembered by many school children because of their employment at the Franklin Elementary School where they worked as custodians for many years.
Mary enjoyed gardening, taking care of her home (from the foundation to the roof), having a well-manicured lawn as well as having pristine-kept vehicles.
Mary prided herself in her independence and self-reliance.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Clara Cottom Nelson, Ethel Cottom Thomas and Olive Cottom Gordon, and brothers, Curtis Cottom, Donald Cottom, Charles Cottom and an infant brother.
She is survived by a sister, Jane Cottom South of Verona, Pa., as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received in the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 South First Street, West Side, Connellsville, Pa., today from 2 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 26, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service.
Interment will follow in the Bowman-Flatwoods Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Lung Association.
