Mary Bubnash Hegarty Fisher

Mary Bubnash Hegarty Fisher, our beloved sister, aunt, stepmother and friend, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2005, in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township, at the age of 92. Mary was born June 21, 1913, at the Crescent Mine in Snowden, Pa., to John and Suzanna Csornej-Maczko Bubnash and settled in Perryopolis, Pa., about 1920.

At age 15 Mary left school for New York City where she worked in Lessing’s Restaurant and other establishments.

In 1938 she married Charles Hegarty, a New York City policeman.

After Charlie’s death, Mary married Alex Fisher and moved to his home in Elizabeth, Pa.

After Alex’s death, Mary returned to Perryopolis for the remainder of her life.

She devotedly cared for her mother until her mother’s death in 1996.

Mary’s home was a gathering place for the extended family. She will be missed but lovingly remembered!

Mary belonged to Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and the Perryopolis Flower Club, the Perryopolis Area Heritage Society and the Perryopolis Area Golden Agers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hegarty, her second husband, Alex Fisher, brothers, George, John and Michael, sisters-in-law, Jean Bubnash, Kay Bubnash and Dorothy Bubnash, a niece, Susan Dolcemascolo, a stepson, Randy Fisher, and a stepson-in-law, Ed Kaufman.

Mary is survived by two brothers: Edward Bubnash and Paul Bubnash and his wife, Jean, of Perryopolis, Pa.; one sister, Helen Wasmuth and her husband, Bill, of Naples, Florida; two stepchildren: Mona Jean McCorkle and Alexine Kaufman; a daughter-in-law, Judy Fisher; and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and dear friends.

Friends will be received in the BLAIR-LOWTHER FUNERAL HOME INC., 106 East Independence Street, Perryopolis, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Panachida Service will be held Tuesday, November 29, at 10 a.m.

Funeral Liturgy follows at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Perryopolis, with the Rev. Father Robert Halus as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Saint Nicholas Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa.

Parastas Service will be held in the funeral home today at 7:30 p.m.

Visitation was also held Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
