Industrial park gets funding

1 min read

Calling it a significant economic development investment, state Sen. Richard A. Kasunic, D-Dunbar, announced Friday that the Burgess Field Industrial Park in Fayette County has received $2 million in state funds for sewer access. “These state dollars will enable the Fairchance Georges Sewer Authority to extend sanitary sewers along Route 857 to the industrial park,” Kasunic said. “It removes a huge impediment toward attracting new businesses to the site.”

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded $789,437 to the project in grant funds, and $1.2 million through a low-interest loan.

Kasunic said that even though the 56-acre industrial park is advantageously located in a Keystone Industrial zone, he said prospective businesses were deterred by the lack of sewer access.

The total project cost is $12 million. In addition to the $2 million announced today, an additional $8.5 million will come from a low-interest state Pennvest loan Kasunic helped obtain.

“The Fay-Penn Economic Development Council has done a great job moving this site forward for new businesses,” Kasunic said. “It is a pleasure working with them toward this important economic development goal.

“I will continue to seek state support for economic development efforts in Fayette County. New businesses and jobs remain my top priority.”
