Authority hears complaints about sewerage lines

By Jenny Susa 2 min read

REDSTONE TWP. – The Colonial Joint Sewage Authority has heard complaints from residents in the Jefferson Township area about the depth of sewerage lines, which they said were not deep enough for them to connect. Another resident approached the authority with the same problem Monday, saying that he did not want to have to get a grinder pump to alleviate the flow problem.

The board assured him that they would do “everything possible” to solve the problem without getting a grinder pump.

“We don’t want you to have a grinder pump either,” said board member Jeff Redman. “So anything that we can do to avoid that, we’ll do it.”

In other matters, operations manager Dwayne Thomas reported that 27 of the authority’s customers have still not paid their tap-in fees. He said that for the month of October, those who pay their bills will owe $1,529.99. The cost of the late tap-in fees will be raised each month and the fee will be capped in December at $1,850.

Authority members said that anyone building new construction in the area must pay the current tap-in rates.

The authority also heard from Engineer Don Reho of Widmer Engineering who told them that their payments on their PENNVEST loan may not start as soon as planned.

“You were scheduled to start payments on Nov. 1, but you can not start until you receive your amortization report,” said Reho.

He said that they might still receive their report in October, but if they don’t they will most likely start their payments a month later.
