Scott Nelson, 20, of 5660 Ella Hollow Road was convicted of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and indecent assault after a jury trial.

Nelson, state police charged, abused a girl who at the time was 5 years old between May and September 2003 at a home in Fayette City, Washington Township. Nelson, according to court records, was baby-sitting the child.

The girl, now 7, told her mother, who went to police, according to court documents. The Herald-Standard does not identify alleged victims of sexual abuse.

Nelson will be sentenced in January before Judge Ralph C. Warman and must undergo a sexual offender assessment. That assessment will determine if he is a sexually violent predator under Megan’s Law.

If a psychiatrist makes that determination and the judge agrees, he can impose a variety conditions after Nelson is released from prison, including community notification that a sexually violent predator is living nearby.
