1 min read

Retired radio newsman and disc jockey John “Jack” McMullen of Uniontown remained hospitalized Tuesday in serious condition with injuries he suffered around 7 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a pizza delivery driver while he was walking across West Main Street in Uniontown. McMullen, 85, who worked in Uniontown as well as the West Coast and Florida, is being treated at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

City police said charges are pending against the driver, a young man who was delivering for Papa John’s Pizza in Uniontown.

Police said the driver did not stop at the scene, but turned himself in Saturday morning.

McMullen was walking to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 from the parking lot across the street when the accident occurred, police said.

When officers arrived, they found McMullen lying in the street with injuries to the head, legs and arms.

He was stabilized at Uniontown Hospital and then transferred to Ruby Memorial.

In addition to his radio career, McMullen also was the director of the Fayette County Redevelopment Authority and worked for the Uniontown Bureau of Community Development in 1960s and 70s.
