Robert W. Hager
Robert W. Hager, known by many as “Pap Hager”, “Chalky”, or “Bud”, age 102, of Mount Independence, Pa., passed away Sunday, October 9, 2005, in Uniontown Hospital, Uniontown, Pa. He was born September 20, 1903, in Keisterville, Fayette County, Pa., son of John Henry Hager and Eleanor Grey Hager.
During his long life he was involved in many businesses: he owned and operated a coal mine and stripped coal, owned Hager’s Grocery Store in Mount Independence and also Hager’s Garage and Gas Station on Route 119 north.
He was politically active for many years in the Democratic Party in Fayette County.
He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.
He was predeceased by his parents, his twin sister, Mildred Hager Sifton, and three brothers, Ray, Clinton and Orville Hager.
Surviving are his wife of 80 years, Zelda Matthews Hager; four children: Yvonne Hopwood of Uniontown, Pa., Jacqueline Maddas Stronko and her husband, David, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., Robert W. “Bounce” Hager and his wife, Mona Ruth Koontz Hager, of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Jill Hager of Pompano Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren: Colleen Fortugna, Marsha Marva, Jeff Maddas, Lisa Quarrick, Doug Maddas, Robbie Hager and Sissy Fornili; twelve great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, HOPWOOD, Pa., today from 2 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, October 13, until 11 a.m., the hour of the Service with Pastor Roger Yeager officiating.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
