Water work set Customers of the North Fayette County Municipal Authority located along Constitution Street, Echard Street, Barney Road, Spruce Street and along Route 51 from the Perry Auto Auction north in the Perryopolis will have an interruption of public water supply on today from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This will permit the authority’s work crews to install a new fire hydrant replacing an old out-of-service hydrant on Spruce Street.

Customers should store water prior to 8:30 a.m. for use during the interruption period.

Discolored and cloudy water will occur on Thursday after the work and probably into Friday.

The authority asks that customers not do any laundry on Thursday after the shutdown, if possible, and to check tap water for clarity before doing any laundry on Friday. If residents do have some discolored water, let the tap water run for a few minutes.

This will eliminate the discolored water that may have reached the service line. Cloudy water indicates that there is a mixture of air in the water and will dissipate after being drawn.

Any questions or special concerns should be directed to the North Fayette County Municipal Authority at 724-626-1211 or 724-438-7361.

If inclement weather is encountered on Thursday, the interruption will be rescheduled for Friday, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Office relocates

The Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) office that was located at the Mountain Citizens Action Group on Dinner Bell Road in Markleysburg has relocated to 5104 National Pike, Markleysburg.

The new location is the current Community Medical Services office in the Mountain View Plaza.

The Fayette County Community Action Agency Inc. WIC program features nine easily assessable clinics, including the newly located Markleysburg site, throughout Fayette County.

WIC provides families with supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition, health education and health screenings to eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women and children up to 5 years old.

WIC offers individualized nutrition counseling, food vouchers, assessment of health status, health counseling, health-care referral and other support and information needed by new mothers following delivery and during the first years of parenting.

For more information on the WIC program, call 724-437-6050.

The WIC program is funded by the state Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

While it is normal for children to worry from time to time, if concern or worry affects a child’s normal development and daily functioning, it may be time for parents to consider seeking treatment for their child.

Children sought

Researchers with the department of psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center are seeking such children to participate in a National Institutes of Health-funded study of medication and therapy for anxiety.

The Childhood Anxiety Multisite Study will compare how sertraline – a drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat anxiety in adults – cognitive behavioral therapy and a combination of the two work in children who worry too much, have problems separating from their parents or are extremely shy.

Participants should be between the ages of 7 and 17 and have persistent anxiety symptoms, shyness or worry.

Those who qualify and choose to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups; sertraline, cognitive behavioral therapy, both sertraline and cognitive behavioral therapy or placebo. Participants will have 12 weekly visits and receive assigned therapy.

All groups will continue to be monitored monthly for six months following the initial 12-week period. Participants who received the placebo but did not improve will become eligible to receive medication, therapy or a combination of both. Participants will be compensated for their time.

For more information or to see if your child qualifies for the CAMS study, call Kim Dever at 888-223-1606 or e-mail her at deverka@upmc.edu.
