Michael Lucas
Michael Lucas, 91, of Millersburg, Pa., and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village in Millersburg. Mr. Lucas was born on November 24, 1913, in Monessen, a son of the late John and Mary Franko Lucas.
He graduated from Monessen High School and the Eckles School of Embalming in Philadelphia. Upon successfully completing the requirements for Funeral Directing he obtained his Funeral Directors license in 1937, a license that he has held until his death. He was the owner and operator of the former Michael Lucas Funeral Homes in Carmichaels and Mount Morris. When active in the funeral homes, he was a member of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association, the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.
Michael was a former member of the former Greensboro Lions Club and the charter president and member of the Carmichaels Lions Club. He was also a member and president of the former Carmichaels Rotary Club where he had thirty-seven years of perfect attendance. While in Millersburg, Michael attended the Millersburg Rotary Club as a guest regularly.
Michael was very active in the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Carmichaels, which he helped to organize. He was very dedicated to the Church and spent much of his time seeing to it’s success. Michael organized the Sunday School in the Church and was its first superintendent. Over the years, he spent many years on the Church Council and served in various offices in the Church. While in Millersburg, he became an associate member of the Millersburg St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and attended regularly while his health permitted.
Michael was a life member of Valley Lodge No. 459 F. & A. M. of Masontown, Pa., a life member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection and a life member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh. He was also a member of the Syria Temple A. A. O. N. M. S. Pittsburgh, Pa.
Michael was married to Anne H. Voivoda Lucas in February 1939 until her death on January 1, 2000. Surviving are two children, Michael J. Lucas and his wife, Amy of Millersburg and Georgianna M. Wiesner and her husband, Frederick of Monroeville, Pa.; five grandchildren, Grant M. Lucas of Virginia, Kelly Cheek of North Carolina, Gretchen Wiesner of Monroeville, Brandon Beatty of Massachusetts and Sara Lucas of Millersburg; three great grandchildren and a brother Paul Lucas of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
There will be a viewing in the REINHARD FUNERAL HOME in Millersburg, this afternoon with a Service of Comfort in the Bereaved at 4:30 P. M. Michael will be taken to the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 S. Vine St. (Route 88), Carmichaels where family and friends are welcomed from Noon to 4 and 6 to 9 P. M. on Sunday, October 30, 2005. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 31, 2005, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 224 S. Market St., Carmichaels with the Rev. Todd Kornahrens officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, Pa. Carmichaels Lions Club will hold a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., on Sunday in the funeral home followed by Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m., by Valley Lodge No. 459 F. & A. M.
