Grant awarded State Sen. Richard A. Kasunic recently announced a $20,000 state grant for Washington Township to build, repair or replace water lines.
“This funding should help the township provide safe and dependable water service in these neighborhoods,” Kasunic said. “I am pleased that Harrisburg dollars are being used to help the township make these timely improvements.”
The grants, administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection, will be used to repair or replace water lines on Second Street and Lynwood Avenue in the Lynwood area and to build a waterline to serve 13 families in the township’s Rathway area.
Commissioner issues plea
State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller urges motorists to wear seatbelts and drive safely during the upcoming, four-day Labor Day weekend.
“We want everyone to get home safely,” Miller said. “Make sure that you and your passengers are properly buckled up before you turn the key. Be a courteous driver and please stay out of the driver’s seat if you’ve been drinking.”
During last year’s Labor Day weekend, 12 people were killed and 313 were injured in 664 crashes that state police investigated, he said. Nine of those killed were not wearing seatbelts, and two people died in alcohol-related crashes, he said.
State police will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort), a national program committed to reducing accidents on interstate highways during the holiday weekend.
Miller said troopers will engage in highly visible, aggressive traffic-law enforcement activity this holiday weekend.
