Dorothy Jane Smith
Dorothy Jane Smith, 83 years of Smithfield, Pa., died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born December 29, 1921 in Uniontown, Pa., daughter of the late Oscar Cunningham and Iona Epley Cunningham.
In addition of her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Jesse Hayden. She was the last surviving member of her parent’s immediate family.
Dorothy was formerly employed at the Laurel Nursing Home for years until her retirement.
She was a member of the Smithfield United Methodist Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher for many years. She also was a Den Mother and started the Cub Scouts in Smithfield and was actively involved with the Smithfield Elementary PTA. Dorothy was always active behind the scenes in whatever she was called upon to do in community service.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Willis C. Smith, four children, John Murray and wife Nancy, Dongola, Ill., Sharon Bealko and husband Robert Dunbar, Pa., Gloria Jane Martin and husband Graham, Glastonbury, Conn., and Mark R. Smith and wife Janet, Point Marion, Pa., ten grandchildren, Joni Erpenbach, Scott Murray, Stacey Wallach, Robert Bealko, Meghan Martin, Kevin Martin, Robert Martin, Cody Smith, Nathan Smith and Christopher Smith and five great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St. Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, September 3, 2005 until 10:00 a.m. the hour of service, with the Reverend Karen Gray officiating.. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield, Pa.
