Suicide Prevention Week observances set
One person commits suicide every 17 minutes in the United States, and more than 4.47 million people in the U.S. have been directly affect by suicide, according to a press release issued by the Community Psychiatric Center. The press release said that 54 percent of all people who die by suicide use a firearm, kept in the home allegedly for safety, to kill themselves.
Experts believe that most suicidal individuals do not want to die. They just want to end the pain they are experiencing.
Experts believe that most suicidal crises tend to be brief. When suicidal behaviors are detected early, lives can be save. There are services available in the community for the assessment and treatment of suicidal behaviors and their underlying causes.
Sept. 4-10 is Suicide Prevention Week. This year’s theme is “Partnerships for Change: Advancing Suicide Prevention Services & Practice.”

Suicide warning signs are:
– Hopelessness.
– Rage, uncontrolled anger and seeking revenge.
– Acting reckless or engaging in risk activities, seemingly without thinking.
– Feeling trapped, as if there’s no way out.
– Increasing alcohol or drug use.
– Withdrawing from friends, family and society.
– Anxiety, agitation, inability to sleep or sleeping all the time.
– Dramatic mood changes and expressing no reason for living with no sense of purpose in life.
