Area man dies A 50-year-old Greensburg man died from a head injury sustained in a motorcycle accident on Route 982 in Mount Pleasant Township Sunday evening, state police said.

Douglas K. Slater died after he lost control of the 2001 Motor Guzzi motorcycle he operated prior to a curve in the roadway near Meteor Drive, state police said. The motorcycle went down on its side, slid and came to a rest in the middle of Back Road at 6:50 p.m., police said.

Slater was thrown off the motorcycle and onto the middle of Route 982, police said. Police said Kecksburg Ambulance transported him to Frick Hospital in Mount Pleasant, where he died.

Local man cited

William Trimbath, 25, of Republic was cited for retail theft and forced to reimburse Chili’s restaurant $104.23 plus gratuity after he allegedly left the restaurant located in the Green Gate Shopping Area without paying for a tab he reportedly ran up with his friends, state police said.

Police said an employee aware of the incident obtained a license plate of the red Mustang Trimbath left in. Trimbath’s mother owned the car, police said.

Car strikes tree

John Majoros, 42, of California was injured when the 1992 Buick he was driving struck a tree along Thornton Road at 10 a.m. Saturday, state police said. The vehicle was heavily damage, police said. Majoros was not wearing a seatbelt, police noted.

Vehicles collide

Mary Swiantek of Perryopolis suffered a moderate injury after the 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis she operated and a 1981 Toyota Celica driven by Margaret Kovach of Perryopolis collided on Cemetery Road at 10:14 a.m. Sunday, state police said. Kovach was not injured in the accident, police reported.

Car window broken

State police allege that a 14-year-old Hiller boy used a BB gun to shoot out the back window of 70-year-old Thelma Ponzuric’s vehicle while she was backing the vehicle out of her driveway along First Street in Hiller around 3 p.m. Wednesday. Police said John Liptak, 81, of Brownsville was also in Ponzuric’s vehicle when the window was shot.

Woman cited

State police cited Sherri L. Myers of Fairchance for allegedly breaking a window at the 160 Club York Road residence of Micani R. Myers at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

South Union Twp.

Man charged

Chad Levi Bardin, 26, of 366 New Salem Road, Uniontown, was charged with retail theft after he allegedly fled Ruby Tuesday restaurant along Matthew Drive without paying for a bill for $106.16 at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, state police said. Police said Bardin and his friends fled the establishment after ordering food and alcoholic beverages.

Charges of theft and harassment are pending against the other people involved in the incident, police said. Police also charged Bardin with harassment after he allegedly made unwanted advances and remarks to a waitress at the restaurant.

South Huntingdon Twp.

Man sought

State police are seeking a man who reportedly drove erratically, brushing a horse with his vehicle in the Renaissance Festival parking lot at 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Police said Alen Matthew O’Hara of Hawthorne, N.J., was riding the horse and tried to slow the man’s vehicle down.

Instead, the vehicle sped up and traveled directly toward O’Hara, who was able to pull his horse back in an attempt to get out of the way, police said. Police observed no injuries to O’Hara or the horse.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 170 to 185 pounds and with short blonde hair.

Police said the man fled east on Route 31 in a Pontiac Sunfire.

Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect or the vehicle is urged to call state police in Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.

Stereo equipment stolen

Someone stole stereo equipment from a green Volkswagen belonging to Jerome Conway, 23, of Uniontown while the car was parked at 312 Woodview Terrace between 6 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, state police said.

Vehicle recovered

A 2003 Ford Ranger belonging to Robert Blaine Layman, 56, of Indian Head was recovered along Foxburg Road at 6:20 p.m. Saturday after being reported stolen on Friday, state police said.

Police said the vehicle, which was returned to Layman, was not damaged. Police are investigating the incident. Charges are pending in Westmoreland County, police said.

East Huntingdon Twp.

Stolen checks cashed

Someone cashed checks stolen from the Herminie 2 Athletic Association and that belonged to Patricia Wise-Sanner of Mount Pleasant at a bank in Johnstown after altering the original amounts and dates on the checks between March 15 and May 21, state police said. Total amount stolen was $300, said police.

East Huntingdon Twp.

Money stolen

State police said a known female suspect stole $2,300 by altering a check valued at the amount, depositing the check into her bank account at National City Bank in Mount Pleasant and then withdrawing the funds on Aug. 11. The suspect later deposited another fraudulent check valued at $4,900 on a closed account, but the bank stopped that check, said police.

Stolen van recovered

City police recovered a 1995 Dodge passenger van in a Clark Street church parking lot at 11:20 p.m. Monday.

The van was unoccupied and unlocked when found, police said. Joby’s towed the vehicle, police said.

City police said someone stole a blue and black BMX bicycle belonging to Patrick R. Stewart from Stewart’s yard at 28 Lemon St.

City police cited Robert Welsh III, 22, of 74 Lenox St. for driving with a suspended license and for failing to stop at a stop sign after a traffic stop at Bailey Avenue and Millview Street soon after midnight on Tuesday.

Checks stolen

Someone stole checks valued at $50 from a truck at Holly Rabatin’s 56 E. Berkeley St. residence sometime overnight on Sunday, said city police. There are no suspects at this time, police said. The investigation is ongoing, police noted.

Harassment reported

Charges are pending against a 26-year-old Coolspring Street man who allegedly threatened Tiffany Robinson of 209 Coolspring St. Monday afternoon, city police said. Robinson told police the man threatened her after she called the police on him for the alleged abuse of his children.

Criminal mischief

City police reported damage to a vacant Lenox Street residence around 4 p.m. Monday. A caller reported numerous juveniles inside the residence, breaking items, police said. Police were unable to locate anyone when they arrived, but they managed to secure the front door. The back door could not be secured because of damage.

Burglary attempted

City police said someone attempted to burglarize Tom Brown’s 135 S. Beeson Ave. residence sometime over Labor Day weekend. Police said someone used a large rock to damage the basement door, reached through the glass, opened the door and entered the garage that leads to the home’s basement. The culprits failed to gain entry through the door, police said. Police said no items were missing or tampered with inside the garage. The investigation is still ongoing.

Paintballs fired

Someone shot paintballs at the 99 Byrer Ave. home of Susan Fox sometime Monday night, city police said. No damage was reported to the home, police added.
