Perry Township supervisors advance plans to raze building

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

PERRY TWP. – During their regular meeting Tuesday, the Perry Township supervisors moved forward with the proposed condemnation of the old foundry building and property adjoining the municipal property. Supervisor A.J. Boni said the condemnation of the property will allow the township to “improve our operation,” with the added tract of land to increase the municipal lot by more than two acres.

“We will use it for a new salt building and it will provide additional equipment storage,” Boni said.

According to Boni the property should be taken by the township through eminent domain sometime next year and Boni added that additional land will allow for an expansion of the now cramped recycling program in the township.

In other business, the township discussed the Star Junction ball field renovation project spearheaded by Atlas America, a natural gas drilling company, to try and improve the company’s image in the community.

Boni said about 30,000 tons of dirt and topsoil have been trucked to the site raising the field by about three-feet and added that while some residents are complaining about the dust and dirt, the project will be a good thing for the community in the long run.

“I understand that we have been dealing with some dirt and dust but it is for the community to benefit,” Boni said of the little league field renovation. “It is a good project.”

In another matter, the supervisors heard from Frazier school board President Bill Vargo about dust and noise in the township as well as the municipality’s policy on cutting grass.

In a heated exchange with Boni and Solicitor Donald McCue, Vargo also complained about a building he owned on township property that was recently bulldozed by the supervisors.

Vargo claimed the township owed him money for different services in the past, including rent.

The township dismissed Vargo’s claims.
