ASBURY UNITED METH-ODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, reports the youth will have a yard sale and car wash Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The church announces Sunday’s casual 9 a.m. service includes the Rev. Thomas Brown’s message “Remember’ and praise choruses and hymns, accompanied by Sharon Brown.

Rally Day will be celebrated on Sunday with coffee time in fellowship hall during the Sunday school hour from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. The Children’s Summer Sunday school class will present a narrative with chime accompaniment on the story of Paul and Silas. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the children will be dismissed to their Sunday school classrooms.

The traditional 11 a.m. service will celebrate Rally Day with Sunday School Teacher Dedication and Patriot Sunday with remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001, Brown’s message and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir and organist Jim Hutchinson. CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, North Oak View Drive, Franklin Township near Waynesburg, will host an open house Sept. 17 between 3 and 4 p.m. The event will include informal tours of the building and refreshments, said President John Parker, leader of the Waynesburg congregation.

The original chapel was built in 1985 and the building was expanded in 1987 to meet the growing needs of church members living in the area.

“We now have a chapel that will seat 100 people along with a recreational facility that includes a basketball court, a stage and classrooms for instructional purposes,’ said Parker. “We think everyone will find the worship and recreational facilities interesting, and we would like to invite people in the community to come and celebrate with us and see our chapel for themselves.’

Services are held Sundays at 10 a.m. and open to guests.

CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS, 91 Barbara St., Uniontown, offers a sacrament meeting Sunday at 10 a.m. Inspirational talks are given, the sacrament is offered and hymns are sung. The next activity will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the church. It will be a devotional for adults, focusing on improving family relationships. LAUREL HIGHLANDS BIBLICAL TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP CENTER is announcing instructors for the fall term. The Rev. Donald F. Cook will instruct “Growing Toward Spiritual Maturity.’ Cook is a retired United Methodist Church pastor who graduated from Indiana University and holds a master’s in sacred theology from Wesley Theological Seminary and has served numerous communities throughout western Pennsylvania. PONTIFICAL MISSION FOR PALESTINE, CATHOLIC NEAR EAST WELFARE ASSOCIATION’S operating agency in the Middle East, reports Monsignor Robert L. Stern, president, has named Chorbishop John D. Faris vice president of the organization.

Founded in 1949 by Pope Pius XII to support Palestinian refugees, the Pontifical Mission is the Holy See’s relief and development agency throughout the Middle East. CNEWA supported victims of the 15-year civil war in Lebanon and is currently providing humanitarian assistance in Iraq.

Faris is a priest of the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn where he served as vicar general before joining CNEWA in 1996. A Uniontown native, he was ordained in 1976. He attended St. Vincent College in Latrobe and received a bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit in 1982. He earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome in 1980 and was president of the Canon Law Society of America (1985-95).

Founded in 1926 by Pope Pius XI, CNEWA is an agency of the Vatican providing support to the churches and people of the Middle East, Northeast Africa, India and Eastern Europe. Programs include needy child, seminary and novice sponsorship programs; village redevelopment; health care, education and interfaith dialogue.

REHOBOTH PRESBYERIAN CHURCH, about a mile from Allen’s Crossroads, in Belle Vernon, announces this Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the attacks on this country. Rehoboth will have a special time of remembrance during the Sunday 11 a.m. worship service, and will also collect a special offering to aid the Hurricane Katrina victims.

UNIONTOWN CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, located on Jeffreys Lane off Route 857, announces the Pittsburgh District Church of the Nazarene is sending a tractor-trailer of water, non-perishable food, baby food, blankets and care kits to Louisiana’s Katrina’s Relief for the evacuees. The church is taking donations for this effort for more than 20,000 evacuees from the Katrina disaster. The denomination has set up four separate sites for relief. Officials said, “Folks have given greatly but the need is still on going before placing these folks in a permanent home.’
