Charles A. May

Charles A. May, 80, of Connellsville, Pa., a prominent local businessman passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 9, 2005, in Uniontown Hospital, while surrounded and comforted by his loving family. He was born April 6, 1925, in Vanderbilt, Pa., a son of the late John and Minnie Cavalcante May.

Charlie was a graduate of the former Dunbar Township High School with the Class of 1944. During high school, Charlie was an outstanding athlete and was a star football player. He continued his football career after high school at the University of Notre Dame, where he received an athletic scholarship to play football. He also served time with the U.S. Merchant Marines.

Charlie was the owner and operator of May’s Tavern in Vanderbilt, for many years. He currently was the owner and operator of the Highland House Hotel and the Titlow Bar and Grill in Uniontown.

Charlie is also a member of St. Rita’s Roman Catholic Church in Connellsville, the Knights of Columbus No. 948 in Connellsville, the Connellsville Slovak Club, and the Connellsville F.O. Eagles No. 493.

Charlie was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He will be sadly missed by all who have come to know and love him.

Charlie is survived by his wonderful family, his loving wife of 55 years, Jean E. Primonato May; his loving children, Charlene Arnolt and her husband, Michael of Indianapolis, Ind., John May of Sante Fe. N.M., and Jeff DiMaio and his wife, Paty of Uniontown; his beautiful grandchildren, Savanah, Whitney, Charly Jean, Santino and Careena; and his sister, Nellie Louise Adams of Vanderbilt and her daughter, Michelle McCune of Connellsville..
