Dollar Tree opens in Fayette Plaza
Dollar Tree Stores Inc. has opened a branch of its $1 discount variety store at Fayette Plaza, 609 Pittsburgh Road, Uniontown. Dollar Tree celebrated its grand opening of the new 10,351 square feet location on Saturday.
“We’re excited to offer Uniontown area consumers an opportunity to enjoy finding great values every day of the week. We are eager to serve the community by providing a fun and convenient shopping experience at a price that is right for everyone,” stated Barbara Seman, vice president of marketing for Dollar Tree.
Dollar Tree, she said, provides quality items with a constantly updated selection, for just a dollar, that appeal to the whole family. “In addition to grand opening specials, consumers can find a whole host of brand names that America knows and trusts everyday – Reynolds Wrap, Breck for Kids, Hershey’s Chocolate, Aim Toothpaste, Play-Doh, Frito-Lay Chips, Heinz Ketchup, 3M Scotch Tape,’ she said.
“Dollar Tree has rapidly expanded its business in the dollar store marketplace. Fueling the company’s recent growth are larger store formats and a single-price point strategy that provides consumers with exceptional variety and value for everyday items. Dollar Tree stores are open seven days a week and are typically located in high-traffic strip malls near grocery stores or mass-merchandisers,’ she added.
The dollar store category is one of the fastest growing retail segments in America, Seman said. “Sixty-nine percent of all U.S. households shop dollar stores. Currently, well over one-third of all Americans visit a dollar store each month. More and more shoppers are visiting a dollar store first to find bargains before they shop more traditional retailers.’
Consumers of all income levels are drawn to Dollar Tree. “It is tough to tell which is more appealing to our shoppers – the consistent low price or the thrill of our ever-changing merchandise selection. You’ll be amazed at how much a dollar can buy,” Seman said.
As of July 30, Dollar Tree operated 2,856 stores in 48 states. During the second quarter, Dollar Tree opened 74 stores and expanded or relocated 27 stores. The company’s retail selling square footage totaled approximately 22.2 million at July 30, an 18.7 percent increase compared to a year ago. The company also operates a coast-to-coast logistics network of nine distribution centers. Dollar Tree trades publicly on the NASDAQ National Market under the ticker symbol DLTR, and is a member of the NASDAQ 100 index. In 2004, Dollar Tree opened or expanded one store per day, on average.
