Man injured in Route 40 accident
Trooper Dave Simpson (left) looks on as Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance personnel remove an injured driver from a car on its side along Route 40 in North Union Township Tuesday morning. Larry Tomlin, 52, of Hopwood was flown to Ruby Memorial from Uniontown Hospital after he was extricated from the car, Simpson said. Tomlin was in reported to be in fair condition Tuesday night. Simpson said Tomlin hit a utility pole near Highway Pizza, causing his car to spin around at least twice before it rolled on to the driver’s side. A newspaper vending machine in the back seat of his car helped trap him inside. “That’s why they had to cut him out. The back seat wasn’t made for a vending machine,” Simpson said. North Union Township and Hopwood volunteer firefighters and Uniontown Firemen’s Ambulance Service responded to the accident.
