Don S. Grimm

Don S. Grimm, 82, of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 4:00 a.m., on Wednesday, September 14, 2005, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born May 18, 1923, in Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Samuel E. and Nellie Kelley Grimm.

Mr. Grimm resided in Cumberland Township all of his life and served with the U. S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He retired from the former Nemacolin Mine where he was a member of the U. M. W. A. Local 6290. Mr. Grimm drove school bus and worked for Baily’s Garage in Carmichaels for a number of years. He served as trustee for the former New Providence (Glades) Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels, and was a member of its cemetery committee. Mr. Grimm was currently a longtime member of the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels.

Mr. Grimm became a member of the Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company on February 4, 1949 and served as an active member for 31 years when he became an honorary member in 1980. He served the Fire Company as trustee for 14 years, an engineer for about 30 years and was very active with the former fireman’s band in driving the members to parades. Mr. Grimm was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Fireman’s Association, the Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs Association and the Greene County Fireman’s Association. He was a former member of Valley Lodge No. 459, F. & A. M. of Masontown, Pa. and enjoyed camping and travel.

On June 25, 1949, he married Joann Jensen, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert Craig Grimm and his wife, Cynthia, of Carmichaels R.D. 1; five grandchildren, David S. Grimm, Jr., Angela L. Grimm, Tiffany J. Kern, Ashley M. Benchek and Hillary A. Grimm; two great grandchildren, Karic D. Hughes and Chase A. Kern; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, she was predeceased by a son, David S. Grimm, Sr., and his wife, Deborah J. Barren Grimm, a brother, Francis Grimm, and a sister, Betty Harris.

Family and friends are welcomed from 7 to 9 p.m., today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P. M. on Friday in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa. (724-966-5500). Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, Corner of Greene and Pine Street, Carmichaels, with the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park. The Carmichaels and Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company will conduct a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., tpday in the funeral home.
