BREAKTHROUGH WORSHIP CENTER, located on Ferguson Road in Mount Braddock, announces the men of the church will attend the Men of Valor Conference this weekend. Some of the handicrafts will be on sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the Afghan Girls Fund, a National Geographic program that provides funds for the education of girls and young women in Afghanistan. CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, located at North Oak View Drive in Franklin Township near Waynesburg, will host an open house Saturday between 3 and 4 p.m. The open house will include informal tours of the building and refreshments, said President John Parker, leader of the Waynesburg congregation.
The original chapel was built in 1985 and the building was expanded in 1987 to meet the growing needs of church members living in the area.
“We now have a chapel that will seat 100 people along with a recreational facility that includes a basketball court, a stage and classrooms for instructional purposes,’ said Parker. “We think everyone will find the worship and recreational facilities interesting, and we would like to invite people in the community to come and celebrate with us and see our chapel for themselves.’

PILGRIMAGE TO PITTSBURGH will be held on Sunday. ST. HUBERT ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 9 Sadler St., Point Marion, will host a dedication Mass of the new church building on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with Bishop Lawrence E. Brandt of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg as chief celebrant and homilist. The Rev. Joseph L. Sredzinski, pastor, will read the Gospel and welcome the bishop to the parish. Other dignitaries include the Knights of Columbus, national officers of the Polish Falcons of America, many former pastors and invited guests.
St. Hubert Parish experienced two fires on Nov. 25, 2003, which destroyed the building. Reconstruction began last November, headed by Fairchance Construction. Desmond and Associates of Pittsburgh developed the architectural plans. Serving as parish representatives for the building committee were Patricia Cavenas, Al DuBois and Thomas Shusko.
The church, founded in 1909, serves 112 families. A dinner will be held following the Dedication Mass in the Lions Skating Rink on Railroad Street for 200 people.
The church announces Andy Fenus and the Trel Tones will be the featured band for the annual Heritage Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24, on the parish grounds. The American Kitchen will open at noon along with several booths. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. with hymns in Polish and Latin, followed by an Italian-style dinner in the Lions Skating Rink on Railroad Street across from the church parking lot. UNIONTOWN CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, located on Jeffreys Lane off Route 857, announces the Pittsburgh District Church of the Nazarene is sending a tractor-trailer full of bulk merchandise of water, non-perishable food, baby food, blankets and Care Kits to Louisiana’s Katrina’s Relief for the evacuees. The Uniontown church is taking donations for this effort, helping more than 45,000 evacuees a day from the Katrina disaster. The denomination has set up four separate sites for relief. Officials said, “Folks have given greatly but the need is still on going before placing these folks in a permanent home.’
