Pansie I. Shaffer, 84, of Vanderbilt, Pa., formerly of Upper Middletown, Pa., (Fayette County) passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2005, in the Blue Amber Country Home, Franklin Township. She was born April 2, 1921, in Georges Township, a daughter of the late John and Rosalee Wingrove Layman.

Pansie was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister to her family.

She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Waltersburg, Pa.

Pansie is survived by her loving family, her children: William P. Shaffer III and his wife, Joan of Vanderbilt, Charles Shaffer and his wife, Charlene of Latrobe RD 5, Pa., and Dolores “Peg” Cumberland and her husband, Robert of Adelaide, Pa.; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, her brothers, John Layman and his wife, Mae of Ravenna, Ohio, and Lloyd Layman and his wife, Margaret of Smock, Pa., her sisters, Ruth Yoder of Smock, Pa., Alice Hawk of Connellsville, Pa. and Jean Mouser of Smock.

In addition to her parents, Pansie was predeceased by her husband, William P. Shaffer Jr., in 2002, an infant son, George Phillip Shaffer, her stepmother, Bertha Rounds Layman, and her sisters, Martha Newman, Dorothy Little, Edith Nicholson, and Mary Newman.

Family and friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 East Green Street, Connellsville, Pa., on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Poling officiating. A Committal Service and interment will follow in the Normalville Cemetery.
