Fayette County NAACP to hold annual dinner
The Fayette County Branch of the NAACP will hold its 16th Annual Human Rights Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Shadyside, 998 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown. The social hour begins at 5 p.m. and the dinner program begins at 6 p.m. This year’s theme is “Making a Difference-Equality for All.”
The distinguished keynote speaker will be Aaron A. Walton, the senior vice president of corporate affairs for Highmark Inc., one of the largest health insurers in the nation with 2.3 million customers in Pennsylvania, 20 million customers nation wide and annual revenue in excess of $8 billion.
Walton reports to the president and CEO of Highmark and is part of the nine-member executive leadership team.
Walton is responsible for the corporation’s public policy and social mission strategies. Additionally, he maintains organizational accountability for the following entities: Highmark Caring Foundation, Community Affairs, Strategic Corporate Initiatives, Highmark Foundation and Gateway Health Plan.
Walton also serves on numerous boards and commissions in western and central Pennsylvania which include: Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education board of Governors; Council of Trustees of California University of Pennsylvania; Carlow College Board of Trustees; Vice Chair of the Pittsburgh Foundation; Chairman of Health and Wellness for the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s Board of Directors; Secretary of the High mark Health PAC Executive Committee; River’s Club Board of Directors; and Harrisburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Ben E. Wright Jr., senior vice president and market manager for the First National Bank of Pennsylvania, will be the toastmaster. Wright has over 34 years of banking experience and is a devoted community leader.
This year’s honorees will receive awards for health care, human services, higher education, leadership, literature, performing arts, youth ministry and branch service. Recognition will also be given to students who received 2005 Dr. F. L. Vaughns Memorial Scholarships.
