John R. Cerny Jr.
John Raymond Cerny Jr., 63, of Highhouse, Pa., McClellandtown, Pa., died Sunday, September 25, 2005, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. He was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Hays, Pa., the son of Dorothy P. Sanner of Smithfield, and the late John Raymond Cerny Sr.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army, employed with the U.S. Steel Maple Creek Mine for 32 years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church of Fairchance, Hutchinson Sportmen’s Club, German Grange No. 785, and UMWA District 2.
Surviving is the love of his life of 47 years, Shirley J. (Brugger) Cerny; three children, John Raymond Cerny III and Melanie of Shoaf, Daniel Wayne Cerny and Melody of Newport News, Va., and Tonia Renee Crago and husband, Christopher of Uniontown, Pa.; four grandchildren, Joshua, Juliana and Alexandra Cerny and Anthony John Crago; his mother, Dorothy P. Sanner; and one sister, Anita S. Vincek and husband, Joseph of the state of Maryland.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, on Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fairchance, with military rites being accorded.
