By Angie Santello 1 min read

Two people remained unaccounted for Sunday night as divers scoured the waters of the Monongahela River near Crucible, Greene County, in search of the possible drowning victims. The victims were two of four occupants of a boat struck by a barge possibly near Grays Landing Sunday night, according to Robert McAlanis, chief of the Crucible Volunteer Fire Company.

Multiple emergency responders reported no confirmation of drowning deaths in the late evening hours as crews remained on scene.

McAlanis said two people were rescued from the waters, while one was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital and the other was transported by ambulance.

McAlanis said his department was on standby around 10 p.m. in case more people were pulled from the river and needed flown by medical helicopter.

Fire departments from Rices Landing, Crucible, Nemacolin and Carmichaels responded to the 8:35 p.m. incident, according to Greene County 911.

No crews from the Fayette County side of the river were sent, said Fayette County 911.
