Uniontown man charged in robbery

2 min read

A Uniontown man who allegedly robbed another man at gunpoint last November was arrested in his home Tuesday evening by city police. Demetreus Thomas, 19, of 32 Farragot St. was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice Mike Defino and placed in Fayette County Prison on a $40,000 straight cash bond.

Thomas was charged with committing robbery and criminal conspiracy, in addition to being charged with misdemeanors such as making terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by city police Detective Donald M. Gmitter.

In the complaint, Gmitter alleged that on Nov. 15, 2004, Thomas approached a vehicle being operated by Robert Kocak of Uniontown and pointed a revolver at Kocak’s head. Kocak told police another car pulled up behind his vehicle keeping him from leaving Pershing Court.

When Kocak got out of his car, he told police Thomas searched his pockets and took his wallet and various other items before waving the gun at him and telling him to “shoo, run off.”

Kocak told police that Thomas and another man who was also involved in the incident drove away in his car. Police said Kocak’s vehicle was never recovered.

Thomas’ preliminary hearing will be held in front of Magisterial District Judge Mark Blair Oct. 3 at 10 a.m.
