Candy-making demonstration scheduled

By Frances Borsodi Zajac 2 min read

For those who are fans of chocolate, the Friends of the Uniontown Public Library is sponsoring a candy-making demonstration on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. Library flyers proclaim, “Here’s your chance to learn how to create delectable and delicious chocolate confections just in time for the holidays.’

Joni Wisilosky, owner of Joni’s Cakes and Candy Supplies in Connellsville, will give the hands-on demonstration in the upstairs meeting rooms of the library, located on Jefferson Avenue.

“I will show how to melt chocolate wafers and put them in molds. They’ll be making suckers,’ Wisilosky said. “I’m going to do a holiday – fall/autumn/Halloween theme. They can take home what they make.’

She continued, “They just come in and watch me and then do it themselves. Just come prepared to have a good time.’

Wisilosky has been working with chocolate for 25 years and opened her own business five years ago. Prior to that, she worked in retail.

Asked what she likes about chocolate, Wisilosky said, “The end product is so great. It’s so cute and you get to eat what you make. And there’s so many interesting molds.’

Wisilosky will bring a variety of chocolate molds and candy to the demonstration with some available for sale.

Christy Fusco, head librarian at Uniontown Public Library, said the demonstration will be followed by a soup-and-sandwich luncheon. She explained this is part of the cooking class luncheon series that the Friends have traditionally held in the spring and is now expanded into autumn.

Fusco is a fan of the series, noting, “It’s a different experience for the library but it’s still an educational mission. I always say that libraries are more than just books. This is a chance to use information in books in a practical and living way and it brings the community together.’

Space for the chocolate demonstration is limited. To register or for more information, stop by the library or phone 724-437-1165.
