Church celebrates 10th anniversary of play
Grace United Methodist Church of Lover is celebrating its 10th anniversary of “Watch the Lamb’ Passion play with a completely re-written production. Under the direction of choir and drama director Jan Moody, the members of Grace are preparing for the three-day performances entitled “Jesus Wept.’ It will be presented Wednesday, Thursday and Good Friday at 8 p.m.
Officials said, “The Passion play has become Grace’s largest outreach ministry, reaching people in the church, local community and many people across the country. During the past 10 years, more than 500 people of Grace have contributed many hours and talents to the productions and, in the process, have drawn closer to God and each other.’
“Jesus Wept’ uses acting, singing and live animals to help audiences become part of Jesus’ ministry as he teaches, performs miracles and sacrifices his life on the cross.
“The haunting image of Jesus on the cross is the last thing the guests will see, fueling their thoughts of Christ’s great sacrifice on our behalf and bringing the true joy of Easter to their hearts as they celebrate our risen Lord on Sunday morning,’ officials said. “As the audience exits, Grace lay leaders will be available in the adjacent library for those who would like to pray or have questions.’
The production runs approximately an hour and 20 minutes. Offering baskets will be at the doors to help defray production expenses. Seating is limited so early arrival is recommended.
Grace has installed an elevator at the church this year, making the production easily accessible for the handicapped. Space has also been made available in the pews for three wheelchairs. Guests are asked to call ahead to reserve one or more of these spaces.
