Jazz festival set
CALIFORNIA – California University of Pennsylvania’s music department has announced that the 24th annual California University Jazz Experience (CJE XXIV) will take place Monday through Wednesday. The popular event is hosted by Cal U’s music department and Max Gonano, who is a longtime Cal U professor and music department chairperson.
Cal U’s Jazz Experience encourages different middle school and high school jazz ensembles to perform at Cal U and have the opportunity to work/play with local clinicians.
This year’s featured clinicians are Ralph Guzzi of Guzzi Music, Mike Sakash of Washington and Jefferson College and Curtis Johnson of West Virginia University.
California Jazz Experience XXIV will include bands from the following school districts: Kiski, Pleasant Hills, Ringgold, Rogers Capa, Washington Park, Connellsville, Chartiers-Houston, Peters Township, Montour, Thomas Jefferson and Keystone Oaks.
Also occurring during the Jazz Experience will be lunchtime concerts in the Natali Student Center with Cal U’s own jazz ensembles at noon, which will feature a different clinician each day.
Monday night will feature Maureen Budway in the Recital Hall in Gallagher Hall (room 107) at 8 p.m.
A concert featuring both California University Jazz Ensembles will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Performance Center of the Natali Student Center.
The CEBurgh Big Band will play at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Performance Center.
All events are free and open to the public. California Jazz Experience XXIV is sponsored in part by Citizens Bank, Volkweins and Student Association Incorporated.
