Concession stand break-in bad news for baseball boosters

By Christine Haines 2 min read

REDSTONE TWP. – For at least the fourth year in a row, supplies have been stolen from the concession stand at Redstone Field in Redstone Township. “It’s been four or five years that they’ve done that,” said Joe Novak, president of the Brownsville Area baseball boosters.

“Last year, they broke through the wooden windows. This year they broke into the middle school that’s being torn down. They took a bolt-cutter and cut the lock of the door,” Novak added.

State police at Belle Vernon said the break-in occurred between 4:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. About 30 pounds of copper pipe valued at $50 was stolen from the school, while the items stolen from the concession stand were valued at about $500, police said.

Stolen were a case of hamburgers, a case of french fries, 14 cases of soft drinks, a dual-basket fryer, large storage containers of candy, a canister of sugar, a canister of coffee and a container full of dish towels and other kitchen supplies.

“We send out letters to get money from businesses, but the concession stand is the main source of revenue to buy the boys jackets and bats and everything else they need for the year,” Novak said.

Novak said the $500 worth of stolen supplies probably means a loss of about $1,000 in revenue for the boosters.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to call the state police at Belle Vernon at 724-929-6262.
