John L. Egidi
John L. Egidi, 86, of Masontown, Pa., passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006, in the Uniontown Hospital with his loving family at his side. Mr. Egidi was born in Herminie, Pa., on December 19, 1919, the son of the late Carl and Annie Egidi.
John was predeceased by his son Ronald Egidi, three brothers, Robert, Sam and William and a sister, Mary Agatucci.
He was employed as a coal miner at the United States Steel, prep plant. He was the owner and operator of Egidi News Stand of Masontown and he worked for American Bridge, United States Steel Corporation.
John was a member of Masontown VFW Post 4584, Masontown American Legion Post 423 and Italo American Club and UMWA. He was Past President of the Masontown Exchange Club, a PIAA Football Official and a PIAA Basketball Umpire. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Leckrone, Pa.
He was the widower, of Josephine (Angelini) Egidi, deceased in 1971. He was also the widower, of Ruth (Ludrosky) Egidi, deceased in 2003.
He served in the United States Army as a Cpl. in World War II, he was a member of the 9th Armor Division with General Patton.
Surviving are a son, Richard and wife, Charmaine Egidi of Masontown, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Egidi of Masontown; grandson, Ryan Egidi and fianc?, Sara; grandson, Christopher Egidi and wife, Kellie; granddaughter, Deanna and husband, Ron Gregory; great-grandson, Nicholas Egidi; great-granddaughter, Gina Egidi; great-grandson, Nathan Gregory; special caregivers: Darlene, Donette, Penny and Sue.
John was a very kind and compassionate person who always loved his home full of family and friends. He also enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and was the “chef” of the best antipasto salad.
A prayer service will be held on Monday at noon in the funeral home, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Leckrone, Pa., at 12:30 p.m., on Monday, April 17, with Father Donald P. Trexler as celebrant.
Friends are also invited to call Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m., at the JOHN S. MAYKUTH, JR., Funeral Home.
Interment will be held at Saint Agnes Cemetery Masontown, Pa.
Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Masontown VFW and the American Legion.
Donations may be made to Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Leckrone, Pa., and All Saints School.
